Within the monitoring of the work of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) of the Republic of Serbia regarding the attack on Belgrade Pride Info Center premises on 29 February 2020, the Protector of Citizens ascertained that the Ministry identified the assailants and had taken measures to prosecute them; marking the first time that the perpetrators have been identified following a total of 11 attacks on the premise.
In late February 2020, the Protector of Citizens initiated an investigation to control the work regularity and legality of the Ministry of Interior, and in early July that same year, it received a document from this Ministry stating that the officers of the City of Belgrade Police Department had established the identity of the persons who kicked the front door of the Pride Info Center in Belgrade, including, as reported, one adult and several minors.
In the document, the Ministry of Interior further points out that the attending prosecutor of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade estimated that there were no elements of a criminal act in that event, as well as that a misdemeanor procedure was initiated against the only adult who participated in the attack, and the minors were pronounced a warning measure.
Via the MOI document, the Protector of Citizens was notified that the Police Officers from the Department for Public Peace and Order, Police Administration, and City of Belgrade Police Department informed on the undertaken measures Belgrade Social Welfare Center – Departments Zvezdara and Grocka in order to take measures within their competence relevant to minors who participated in the attack.
The Protector of Citizens initiated an own initiative investigation to control work regularity and legality of the Ministry of the Interior, following the media reporting that the Prajd Info Center Premises were attacked in late February 2020 for the 11th time in a row, but until now the MOI neither identified nor prosecuted any of the assailants.
