The Protector of Citizens, Zoran Pasalic, said tonight that any kind of violence against another person, especially against women, be it psychological or physical, is unacceptable, and reiterated that the authorities should specifically help victims in terms of prosecuting and punishing those who commit violence.

"Since 2004, I have been working on recognizing and protecting victims of violence, primarily women victims of domestic violence, and creating opportunities for the competent authorities to concretely help victims in terms of prosecuting and punishing those who commit violence. Providing free examinations for victims of domestic violence with forensic doctors is a great step in that direction", said Pasalic at a panel discussion organized by the Islamic Community of Serbia on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Pasalic also stated that the most serious consequence of violence is the opening of the next round of violence where a person living with violence becomes either a future perpetrator or a future victim.
