The Protector of Citizens, Mr. Zoran Pašalić, wished best of health and success in all walks of life in the year ahead to all the citizens of the Republic of Serbia, assessing that the Institution will be operating in 2022 with its independence and efficiency of acting additionally strengthened by the new Law on the Protector of Citizens.

“In new 2022, first and foremost, I wish best of health to all the citizens of the Republic of Serbia, as well as prosperity, success and happiness. In the year ahead, and within the additional mandates delegated to us by the new Law on the Protector of Citizens, our focus will be to help citizens to exercise their rights in a more efficient and faster manner through the control of regularity and legality of competent authorities’ work,” Pašalić said.

“In the passing year, we accomplished a large number of goals, most important being: the increase of trust in the Protector of Citizens and the adoption of the new Law on the Protector of Citizens which stepped up the independence and efficiency of acting of the Institution,” said Pašalić.

The Protector of Citizens stated that the rise of citizens’ trust in the Protector of Citizens was illustrated by increased number of approaches and complaints filed to the Institution, predominated by the ones about socio-economic issues, but that the number of citizens’ approaches regarding the work of court administration and local self-government units was on the rise as well.

“As the only constitutional rank national human rights institution, we are very aware of the responsibility we have and the challenges we face following the adoption of the new Law. Certainly, our priority will be full protection of the rights of all citizens and the rectification of competent authorities’ work, " said Pašalić.
