Emphasizing the importance of protecting the identity of victims of trafficking in human beings and their personal data, the Deputy Protector of Citizens for Children's Rights and Gender Equality, Jelena Stojanović, pointed out how important it is that the media objectively and ethically report on the trafficking in human beings, based on facts.
"The media are key actors in the communication between the public and the competent authorities, which are obliged to identify the perpetrators and protect the victims of trafficking in human beings. In addition to the function of informing the public, the media also have the function of educating that same public, since being completely informed is a prerequisite for determining the circumstances under which the risk of trafficking in human beings can be identified", Stojanović pointed out at today's training for the representatives of the media and the journalists.
The continuation of the workshop for journalists on ethical reporting on trafficking in human beings based on facts, which was attended by about twenty media representatives from all over Serbia, was organized by the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, within the project "Prevention and combating trafficking in human beings in Serbia", which is part of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Horizontal facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022".
