Based on information from the media that a father from Brus sold his minor daughter for money and forced her to marry a much older acquaintance of his, the Protector of Citizens launched an own-initiative investigation to assess the legality and regularity of work of the competent state authorities.
The Protector of Citizens asked the Centre for Social Work of the Municipality of Brus to provide information within 15 days on whether the child's family was already on the records of the Centre for Social Work and, if so, what activities were undertaken in the previous period under the competence of the centre. Also, it is necessary to provide information on the activities undertaken in connection with the aforementioned findings in order to protect the rights and best interests of the child, as well as information on cooperation with the police and the Centre for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking in the aforementioned case.
At the same time, it is necessary for the Ministry of Interior to submit a report on the activities undertaken in this case, and the Centre for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking to submit data on the activities undertaken in order to protect the rights and best interests of the child, as well as information on cooperation with the police and the Centre for Social the work of the municipality of Brus.
